Senior Designer
Anagraph is looking for a Senior Designer to join our growing team.

About us:
Anagraph is a design and publishing studio based in Berkeley, CA. We specialize in content creation, storytelling, branding, and strategy across digital and print media. We’re also the producers of Anxy, a beautifully designed magazine exploring mental health through an artful and creative lens.

The Senior Designer is responsible for strategizing, conceptualizing, defining and executing design direction on creative projects. This position is also responsible for coaching and overseeing the work of the design team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Design Execution:

  • Work in conjunction with Creative Director to determine art and design direction of projects

  • Ensure all work is strategically sound and aligns with Anagraph’s creative approach

  • Conduct conceptual exploration, establish direction and design solutions, and ensure successful implementation of that direction through production

  • Effectively deliver designs, while considering formats, mediums, platforms, and devices

  • Provide art direction and design feedback to contractors and commissioned artists

Client Management:

  • Assist with keeping deliverables and schedule aligned on any given project

  • Lead meetings and delivery of client presentations


  • Manage multiple projects and work across disciplines at the same time

  • Collaborate with team members on assigned projects

  • Identify and communicate project, client or team issues and participate in their effective resolution

  • Lead and motivate the design team, inspiring teamwork and craftsmanship through sharing knowledge and design references

  • Participate in the delivery of internal presentations

Project Definition

  • Provide feedback on proposals, helping define the scope of projects (goals, deliverables, and schedule)

Job Qualifications and Competencies

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication Design, Graphic Design, Interaction or relevant field

  • 6-7+ years experience at a design firm, agency, editorial or in-house design environment

  • Mastery of one or more aspects of design, including Graphic Design, Experience Design, Information Design, Art Direction, Storytelling, Editorial Design, Creative Technology

  • Concept and idea-driven, with excellent understanding of branding, including creating and extending brand identity systems

  • Excellent visual communication and art direction; strong storyboarding and visualization

  • Collaborative with desire to build strong, meaningful relationships with clients and partners

  • Ability to drive personal creative vision as well as accept and implement feedback from team members

  • Self-directed, with the ability to take initiative and thrive in ambiguity

  • Ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines

  • Previous experience managing and mentoring a design team

  • Expertise in Sketch and Adobe Creative Suite; especially Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign

  • Online or PDF portfolio showcasing diverse design work

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Master's degree in Design, Technology or relevant field

  • Programming and/or Prototyping Skills

This is a full-time job with benefits. Candidates will be required to work on-site at our Berkeley, CA office.
